What are Single-Sided Flexible PCB?

2024-09-26

Single-sided flexible PCBs are the most basic type of flexible circuits. They consist of a flexible dielectric film laminated to a single sheet of copper. The copper layer is then chemically etched according to the specified circuit pattern design. If required, a polyimide coverlay can be added to the board for additional insulation and protection.

This design consists of a single conductive copper layer that is either bonded between two insulating layers or constructed with a polyimide insulating layer and uncovered sides. The inner copper layer then goes through a chemical etching process to produce the circuit design.

The design of single-sided flexible PCB supports the inclusion of components, connectors, pins and reinforcement plates. This design allows access to conductive materials from a single side of the circuit, and is suitable for applications where cost and electrical performance are not high. Compared with traditional rigid circuit boards and cables, the main benefit of single-sided flexible PCB as a connection device is its flexibility and bendability, which makes it possible to arrange circuits in a compact space while reducing the physical connection between components, thereby improving the reliability and stability of the overall system.
